X 1.5 CASE STUDY
Los Angeles, California
X1.5 is a cost-effective prototype available to homeowners looking to rebuild their homes that were lost in the recent Los Angeles fires. The design is guided by an efficient open plan layout while providing a resilient and sustainable housing model for high fire severity zones.
X1.5 is expressed as two offset stacking volumes, breaking down the overall massing of the home. The compact plan accommodates a generous garden allowing the living at the lower level to completely open to the outdoors, creating a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. The upper volume contains the bedrooms which enjoy vaulted ceilings culminating in a large clerestory window in the primary suite.
X1.5 provides an optional Pool and ADU either creating a discreet rental unit/granny flat or a flexible space to accommodate additional program needs for the family.
